I had three eggs hatch on a Thursday.  There were 44 more eggs in this batch.  Three hens were sitting on them.  Four days later another egg hatched.  It was dead by morning.  Two days later another eggs hatched but we were there to see it.  One of the hens started picking at the duckling in the shell.  By morning that one was dead too.  Does nature prevent them from letting the other eggs hatch because too much time has passed?  We threw out the remaining eggs.

You got a lot of things to look at here.

Eggs can be saved up to about 14 days before incubation with
out a lot of loss of hatch rate. Eggs will simply stay dormant and not
develop if kept at the right temp up to about 14 days

If the temp is above 85 eggs will start to incubate on there own
even if mama is not sitting.

Incubation is 35 days can go to 37.

The hens would have to lay 15.6 eggs each which would take over
two weeks to do to get the 47 eggs that you started off with.

You would have to know your temp and exactly how long the
hens were sitting to arrive at what might have happened.
