Do we know when female muscovies reach the age of reproductive maturity? I hear 9 months, 1 year, and lots of opinions in between. What's the scoop?

My two young girls were born in Oct and we laying on eggs the following June. That's 9 months I think. They looked mature at 7 months but they weren't ready to let the drake do his work until a few weeks later. Started laying first weeks of June.

I really think a lot has to do with your location. My ducks if hatched in early spring may lay a very few eggs that fall but stop for winter and begin again the following spring. People and more temperate regions report that their early spring hatched ducklings will lay that fall and continue laying for a longer period of time. I consider average to be 9 months.

The information I have provided in this message is based on my own personal experiences, the experiences of others who have shared their experiences and knowledge with me, and a dash of opinion thrown in for extra flavor. Your mileage may vary! )
