All the feathers on the back of his neck have been removed over about a 4 sq inch area. It's a spot he can't possibly reach to have done the damage himself. I don't see any lice or mites or anything. It's quite clean and red. Any ideas?

How old is he?  It may be caruncles.  As my drakes aged I saw caruncles start growing on the neck and even wing.

Yes, I agree about the caruncling. Living in FL. I was told that the warm weather brings more out in them. My male has them all down his neck, but as his wings have dropped off his head & neck have grown more feathers, white ones to be exact. Now my boy looks like he's wearing a very bad toupee! LOl Oh he's a handsome boy, just a little different. I have to laugh when ever I see him. He has a new "trick". He knows that I sometimes will treat them with a piece of bread, so he'll come all the way up to the porch where the sliding door leads to the house & he'll stand there & peck at the door & look at me, then my hands & then peck back on the door til I go in & get him a piece. And who said that ducks aren't smart?? Not,I! LOL But they sure are a joy, huh?

He's 6 months. Maybe it is more caruncling. I didn't know they got it on their necks. It certainly looks perfectly healthy.

Usually it's older birds that get them on their necks.  If he's got a bald patch it could be he's getting picked on by another bird.  If he has access to bathing water regularly external parasites shouldn't be a concern.

Wow.  If he's got it at 6 months I hate to see what he looks like as an adult - caruncling out the whazoo!  Only bird I've had that had this bad was a white and he had wicked bad caruncles.  Hated it.  Hopefully he won't have an outrageous amount.

Yes, he's a white. He won't get it too badly. He will be Christmas dinner instead.
