I've got a duckling that is breathing hard.  I'm pretty sure it's a respiratory problem.  What antibiotics are safe to use on muscovies?  Dosages?

All the other birds look great so I will dose it separately.

I've never had to treat a duck.  The only problem I have had is with CRD that came home with some chickens & traveled through the peafowl that I used Tylan 200 for which worked exceptionally well.  I'm thinking I used 3 drops per bird for several days ...

Thanks Cathy.

CRD.  Chronic Respiratory Disease?

I'm going by the vet next week so I'll stop in and get something from her.  She runs a wildlife rehab center besides the dog and cat stuff so I trust her advice.  I'll post the dosage and antibiotic she recommends.

I got some Panacur wormer for Tiny Tim (or Tina) the gosling that wasn't growing.  He/She is starting to look like a real goose finally but I can't say the change was sudden.

Yes, chronic respiratory disease.  Not a pretty thing!

I've heard of people using some of the powdered antibiotics, Terramycin and such, but I've never heard of anyone really caring much for it.

This duckling is lagging behind on growth and pants.  Other than that she gets around fine and eats okay.  I robbed a late nest and boiled the eggs last night so I'll pen her up and make sure she gets some boiled eggs and electrolytes.

We just had a big seagull (2,000+), cormorant, and great blue heron kill a few miles from here.  They are thinking botulism or west nile virus.

Both would be capable of doing in a duck.  Stunted growth is a sign of CRD, as is swollen sinuses and nasal discharge, sneezing, etc.  Actually, there are more than one mycoplasmas.  You can check out the merck website.  I think the link is in the links section.  It will give you something to start with, at least.

Thanks.

She does sneeze so I'm hoping that a round of antibiotics will clear it up.

I did crate her one evening until morning with electrolyte water and lettuce plus a bowl of boil duck egg.  Surprisingly she didn't gobble up the egg.

Just like when I make a doctor appointment she suddenly got better right before I was to get the antibiotics so I didn't treat her.

Isn't that how it always happens?  Glad that she improved!
